Memorial complex of Khoja Ali Romitani
Information about the monument complex of Khoja Ali Romitani , the 4th Pir of ancient Bukhara

Khoja Ali Romitani (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), better known under the alias "Azizan", was born in 1191 in the village of Kurgan in Romitan district of Bukhara.  This man was of medium height, possessed outstanding qualities, and had a bright face. Ali Romitani chose the path of poverty, engaged in weaving. The man was with the people in sight and at heart was with Allah. Possessor of high Manchurian status, he possessed extraordinary beauty. He was one of the most loyal and great caliph who faithfully served Fagnawi.

Ali Romitani, known among the Sufis by the nickname "Azizan," educated the people in Romitan for several years, then moved to Bovard (Abiward), where he also educated murids. Finally, having moved to Khorezm, Mukim settled there.

The works "Rashahot ayn ul-Hayat" and "Hazarat ul-Quds" say that Khoja Ali Romitani received a written permission from the ruler to live in Khorezm. Every day he would go to the workers' market, bring home a couple of workers, teach them religion and sufism, give them payment when night fell, and leave. But the man who once heard Hoxha Ali Romitani talk kept coming again. In this way the number of murids grew rapidly.

When asked by Hodja Ali Romitani "what is Faith? (or "what is Sufism?"), he replies, "divide and unite" (that is, separate the heart from love of life and focus on the God).

Khoja Ibrahim, son of Khoja Ali Romitani, asked his father: "Mansur Khalloj said: "An – Al Haq (I am right)," and they executed him, and Bayazid Bastami said: "there is nothing in hirkam(heart) except Allah", they did not tell him anything, what is the wisdom of this? Khoja Ali Romitani: "Mansur put forward the ego and began to utter the word “Me”, so he got into trouble. And Bayazid put forward nothing, started his word with “No”, so he survived."

He corresponded with Alauddawla Simnoni of the Kubrawi Sheikhs, Ali Romitani, who met with Sheikh Yassawi Sayyed Ota, lived 130 years. Five men named Muhammad came of age. Each of them was a scholar, perfect, ruler in science and virtue: Khoja Muhammad Ibrahim (his own son, died M. 1391.), Khoja Muhammad Kulakhduz Khwarizmi, Khoja Muhammad Halloj Balkhi, Khoja Muhammad Bovardi Khwarizmi, Khoja Muhammad Babai Samasi. These Khoja Ali Romitani Khalifs afterwards continued the advancement of the Khojagan teaching in Khorezm, Bukhara, and Balkh.

After him, this great man, who was called the "king of truth," gave the sheikh's permission to Muhammad Babai Sammosi in Khojagan-Naqshbandi.  The grave of Khoja Ali Romitani is in the Old Urgench of Tashauz in Khorezm, some of our scholars claim that the real grave of Khoja Ali Romitani was in his native village Azim in Bukhara, in the present district of Romitan.

About the shrine of "Khoja Ali Romitani"
During the our president’s visit to Bukhara region in February 2018, initiatives were initiated to improve seven pir shrines, including the beginning of construction and repair work at the "Khoja Ali Romitani" shrine located in the village of Oiba in Romitan district. By now, new entrance gates with three domes, a swimming pool, a 16-meter high tower, a mausoleum above the tombs of Hazrat Ali Romitani, male and female toilets and a library have been completed. For the convenience of the pilgrims, the roads were repaired and parking for visitors was arranged. Currently, construction work is underway in the mausoleum. In the sanctuary of Hodja Ali Romitani is the Jome Mosque, which was built in 2004 on the way to the khashar. The mosque building is surrounded by a three-sided porch, and currently more than six hundred worshippers perform Friday prayers in this mosque. The mosque can accommodate one hundred and sixty people. Next to the shrine is the new modern Kurgan Hotel for 43 people. The temple fountain (well) has been repaired and has acquired an unusual appearance.

More than a hundred ornamental plantings in the Azizon shrine, a variety of flowers add to the beauty of the shrine. Opposite the sanctuary of Hodja Ali romitani is the fortress romitani (fortress), built by Afrosiyab, whose history dates back four thousand years. Visitors to this shrine also visit the ancient fortress on a pilgrimage basis.
